England international Mason Greenwood is expected to make a sensational return to football after securing a move to La Liga outfits Getafe on the transfers deadline day.
The La Liga side signed Greenwood on loan from United, a move that will see Man United covering the $81,000 weekly wages for the forward.
This transfer follows after there was a backlash among United fans, where some supported the return of the winger to the club, while others seriously criticized Greenwood’s return.
Greenwood was arrested on January 2022 on suspicion to violence, including charges on attempted rape, charges that are believed to have been filed by her girlfriend, Harriet Robson.
However, the winger was proven innocent in court, after key eye witnesses dropped the charges, and new evidence emerged which proved that Mason Greenwood did not commit the crimes that he was alleged to have committed.
Since his arrest, Greenwood had not not engaged in any competitive game, and in several occasions leaked pictures revealed that the 21-year-old trained solo.
Man United had conducted a six-month club investigation on the charges filed against the young Englishman, and the club concluded that there was no hard evidence that showed the winger had committed the crimes charged against him. All these were efforts from the club to try and cooperate the talented young star back into the team.
However, all these efforts were thrown to vain, following a heavy criticism that the club faced from some of their fans, not to mention investors.
Due to this, the club and Greenwood had a mutual agreement to part ways, so that the player could continue with his career away from the club.
On the transfer deadline day, Greenwood secured a move to Getafe, which would see him play for the Spanish side till the summer of 2024.
Following his departure, Man United released an official statement to show support to the Englishman which read; “This move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
Late last night, Getafe posted a video of their fans celebrating jubilantly following the arrival of the English super star.
The big question however remains, will Man United fans ever see the 21-year-old at the Theatre of dreams putting on a red shirt, with a red devil’s crest on his chest?
The answer to this was offered by United’s spokesperson which read ” All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.”
“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.” He continued.
Due to these sentiments, it is now crystal clear that Mason Greenwood will never play for Manchester United again, and he will have to move on with his professional career as a footballer elsewhere away from Manchester United.
